Leading the Way in Veterinary Oncology
Oncology Care
At Northwood Animal Hospital, we understand the emotional journey that comes with a cancer diagnosis in your beloved pet. Using the latest in oncology treatments, our dedicated team is committed to providing advanced care, tailored treatment options, and unwavering support to you and your furry family member.
Comprehensive Cancer Care
We offer a wide range of options for cancer patients, collaborating closely with referral centers and specialists to ensure your pet receives the best possible treatment. We know that discovering your pet has cancer can be overwhelming, and we are here to guide you, answer your questions, and explore the best options for both you and your pet.
Precise Diagnosis and Treatment
When a tumor is detected, we often recommend surgical removal and histopathology (biopsy) to identify the type of cells in the mass and to make sure it was removed in its entirety. If malignant cells are found (cancer), we can then consult with veterinary oncologists and provide chemotherapy options at our facility or refer you to a specialist, depending on the case.
Compassionate Chemotherapy
Pet chemotherapy differs significantly from human treatments. Our goal is to maximize your time with your pet while carefully monitoring their quality of life. Veterinary oncology emphasizes enhancing quality rather than quantity of life, with tailored chemotherapy protocols designed to combat cancer while minimizing side effects. Most pets undergoing chemotherapy do not experience the hair loss, persistent nausea, or weakness commonly seen in human patients. They continue to run, play, and enjoy life while receiving cancer treatment.
Extended Quality Life
Recent advancements in veterinary cancer treatments have significantly improved outcomes, offering pets anywhere from months to years of extended quality life. While some patients can be cured, others may experience cancer recurrence. During such times, we provide counseling, therapy options, and offer treatment options to provide the best quality of life possible during end of life care. We aim to ensure your pet’s last days are dignified, peaceful, and pain-free.
Early Detection Matters
If you discover a lump or mass on your pet or have concerns about cancer, please schedule an appointment promptly. Early detection can make a significant difference in the chances of recovery.
